COVID 19 Waiver of Commercial Rates 2021 - Quarter 1 & Quarter 2, 2021.
On the 27th of January, 2021 the Department of Housing, Local Government & Heritage issued details of the Commercial Rates Waiver to be applied for the first quarter of 2021. On the 26th March, 2021, the Department of Housing, Local Government & Heritage extended the Rates Waiver Scheme for a further 3-month period for eligible cateogories of ratepayers up to 30th June, 2021. In this regard, eligible ratepayers will benefit from having a six-month waiver, equivalent to 50% of the annual rate bill for 2021 applied to their accounts.
An application to Leitrim County Council is not required. The Rates Waiver for Quarter 1, 2021 was applied as a Credit in Lieu on the accounts of all eligible ratepayers in April, 2021. The second three month Rates Waiver for Quarter, 2, 2021 will be applied to all eligible ratepayers accounts in June, 2021.The full list of categories and uses of commercial rate properties that are deemed eligible for the Waiver is available here: Appendix C Revised - Rates Waiver Scheme categories and uses that are eligible for the Rates Waiver Scheme .
This six month credit in lieu of rates from 1st January, 2021 to 30th June, 2021 does not apply to certain categories of business. The full list of Excluded Categories and Uses is available here: Apppendix D - Revised - Categories and uses that are not eligible for the Rates Waiver Scheme 2021.
APPEALS PROCESS FOR RATEPAYERS IN THE EXCLUDED CATEGORIES FOR THE RATES WAIVER SCHEME
A fund is being provided for ratepayers in these categories who can demonstrate that the pandemic has had a significant negative impact on their business. Business in the excluded categories above, save public service properties and vacant properties, may seek eligibility from Leitrim County Council if it can be shown the business was severely impacted by the pandemic. If this applies to your business, you will be required to submit documentary evidence to support eligibility.
APPEALS PROCESS FOR RATES WAIVER QUARTER 1, 2021
The closing date for receipt of appeals from categories or Ratepayers in the 'Excluded Categories' for the Rates Waiver for Quarter, 1, 2021 was 30th April, 2021.
Applicants that had their application for the Rates Waiver for Quarter 1, 2021 included in the funding request to the Department, do not have to re-apply for the waiver in Quarter 2, 2021. If such applications are approved by the Department, the waiver will be applied for the full six months. If you did not apply or if you were notified that your appeal request for Q1, 2021 was unsuccessful, you can now re-apply for consideration for the waiver for Quarter 2, 2021.
APPLICATION PROCESS FOR THE RATES WAIVER FOR QUARTER 2, 2021
If you are a ratepayer and your business is in the 'Excluded Catetory' of businesses that does not qualify for the Rates Waiver for Quarter 2, 2021, you can submit an appeal application with supporting proofs to demonstrate the impact of the Pandemic on your business from 1st April, 2021 to 30th June, 2021. Appeals should only be submitted by email to: email@example.com. The closing date for submission of your appeal for the Rates Waiver Scheme for Quarter 2, 2021 is Friday 16th July, 2021. Following submission of your appeal, the request will be reviewed and you will be notified of the decision in due course.
