Introduction to Planning


Covid 19 - Following the signing of Ministerial Order under Section 251A of the Planning and Development Act 2000, as amended, on 29 March 2020 which result in an extension of time for a range of specified/appropriate periods and timelines it should be noted that these timelines are not reflected in the records accessible under the Planning Enquiry System. While every care has been taken to display accurate information, the local authority will not be held responsible for any loss, damage or inconvenience caused as a result of any inaccuracy or error within. All information on the site including the planning enquiries system is updated on a regular basis. While every effort is made to ensure all information is accurate on the site, the Planning Authority cannot guarantee this at any particular point in time.


The function of the Planning Department is to ensure that the planning process achieves a balance between economic development and the environment.

Archive Files:

All files over 5 years old are held in storage and must be requested 2 – 3 working days in advance. The fee for inspecting a file over 5 years old is €25.00. The fee for a copy of Grant of Planning Permission is €9.25.

Planning Searches:

Planning Searches are not carried out by Leitrim County Council. The Planning Register is available during office hours as referred to above, at the Planning Department, Leitrim County Council, Aras An Chontae, Carrick-On-Shannon, Co. Leitrim. Planning Searches can also be carried out online by clicking on Online Planning Search and by viewing online maps on this website.
